The government will probably submit a second extra budget for fiscal 2009 to the Diet during the ordinary session that starts in January instead of this month's extraordinary session, because a review of the first supplementary budget has been delayed, official sources said Monday.

Resuming allowances for single-parent households that were discontinued by the previous administration and other main pillars of Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's government were to have been implemented in the second extra budget before the end of the current fiscal year through next March.

But the government is still revising the first supplementary budget despite missing its self-imposed deadline of last Friday. It will also have to start compiling the main budget for the next fiscal year in the next couple of weeks.
