KAGOSHIMA (Kyodo) About 20,000 chickens were killed Sunday in a fire that destroyed a poultry facility in the Chiran-cho district of Minami-Kyushu, Kagoshima Prefecture, police said.
The fire broke out around 12:40 p.m. at Kugita Chicken Farm. No one was injured.
The precise cause of the fire in the 900-sq.-meter building was not immediately known. However, the police said workers were burning grass they had cut near the structure, and the fire may spread to the building.
