Friends and acquaintances held a farewell gathering Sunday for actress Reiko Ohara, who died earlier this month at age 62, that included watching famous scenes from her works.

The commemoration at a funeral hall in the Aoyama district in Tokyo was organized by actress Mitsuko Mori, actress Ruriko Asaoka, producer Fukuko Ishii and others.

"Reiko-chan was beautiful and brilliant, but lonely," Mori said, representing the organizers. "She was an actress loved by many people.

"I think she went through some very hard times as she was attacked by a disease at an early age," Mori said. "I wished she could have lived longer than me."

Ohara, found dead in her Tokyo home on Aug. 6, gained popularity through her various roles in television dramas and movies.
