Japan Airlines Corp. said Friday it is negotiating with rival Nippon Cargo Airlines Co., a Nippon Yusen K.K. unit, to merge their freight operations next spring to turn JAL’s cargo business around.
JAL, seeking to strengthen its performance after securing a large loan from government-linked and commercial lenders, said it envisions making its cargo business integration a pillar of the new restructuring program it aims to compile, possibly by the end of September.
