Classical music critic Kyoichi Kuroda died of multiple organ failure Friday, his family said Wednesday. He was 71.

Kuroda was known for his critical, easy-to-understand essays, which helped expand the audience for classical music.

While making frequent appearances on TV and radio programs, the Tokyo native also wrote several books on classical music and opera.
