SAPPORO (Kyodo) A body found Wednesday evening in a river in Kutchan, Hokkaido, is believed to be that of an Australian man who has been missing since Feb. 20, police said.

Police were trying to identify the body, believing it to be Scott McKay, 27.

McKay, who ran his own business, was last witnessed drinking at a bar about 1 km from where the body was found on Feb. 20.

The man apparently accidentally fell into the river, the police said. There were no signs of major injuries.

A passerby found the body at 5:45 p.m. and alerted police.
