KYOTO (Kyodo) Police said Monday they have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of sending gifts to a woman despite having been warned against doing so under the antistalking law.

Kiyoshi Tsutsumi, a bookbinder in Kyoto, allegedly sent assorted tea leaves to the 36-year-old self-employed woman three times between February and April, even though he received a warning from police in January over the law.

Sending gifts to a person who refuses to receive them is among the actions prohibited under the antistalking law.

Tsutsumi became acquainted with the woman through a hobby but when he asked her out, she turned him down. He has refused to say anything about the case since his arrest.

When he received the warning in January, Tsutsumi told police he "liked her too much."
