Prince Katsura, a cousin of Emperor Akihito, was discharged Sunday from the University of Tokyo Hospital after receiving about six months of treatment for blood poisoning, the Imperial Household Agency said.

The 61-year-old prince at one point was listed in serious condition due to the affects of septic shock, but he is now ready for recuperation at home.

He is the second son of Prince Mikasa, an uncle of the Emperor.

He was admitted to the hospital Sept. 28 with a high fever. He initially received treatment in the intensive-care unit and was moved to the general ward in December.
