SINGAPORE (Kyodo) A Japanese man was found dead in a room in a luxury hotel in Singapore on Monday morning in what the Japanese Embassy called an apparent suicide.
The 64-year-old man, a permanent resident of Singapore, was found dead in his room at the Ritz Carlton with a single stab wound in his chest, police said.
They said a coroner's inquiry will attempt to determine the exact cause of death.
But a Japanese Embassy official said the circumstances, including a letter the man left behind, suggest it is almost certainly a suicide.
A hotel spokesman also said murder was not suspected. Singapore has a low crime rate and murders in hotels are rare.
