The Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election will be held July 12, with campaigning for its 127 seats to start July 3, the metro government Election Administration Commission said Wednesday.
If it comes before the House of Representatives election, the Tokyo assembly poll could foreshadow the general election, which is shaping up as a public plebiscite on the long-ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The assembly election will also be the last for Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara, 76.
