OSAKA (Kyodo) A series of transplants using organs from a man certified as brain dead, including Japan's first combined heart-lung transplant, were completed by Sunday morning in various parts of the country.

In the 79th case in Japan in which a brain-dead person's organs have been transplanted based on the Organ Transplant Law, the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas and kidneys of the deceased man in his 30s were given to four patients.

All of the recipients were in stable condition, according to the medical facilities where they underwent the transplant operations.

The donor's heart and lungs were transplanted to a man in his 30s suffering from Eisenmenger's Syndrome, a combination of serious heart and lung disorders, on Saturday at Osaka University Hospital in Suita.

The donor's liver was transplanted to a man in his 50s in Fukuoka, the pancreas and one kidney to a woman in her 40s in Tokyo, and the other kidney to a man in his 50s in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture.
