Serial rapist Joji Obara filed an appeal Thursday with the Supreme Court seeking to overturn his life prison sentence, which the Tokyo High Court upheld this week by further convicting him of kidnapping Briton Lucie Blackman, 21, eight years ago to molest her and of dismembering and burying her corpse.

Obara, 56, had initially been acquitted in the Blackman slaying by the Tokyo District Court.

The high court also determined Tuesday that Obara raped and drugged nine other women, one fatally, upholding the district court ruling.
