YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) The October suicide of businessman Kazuyoshi Miura in Los Angeles has closed his case of alleged shoplifting at a Kanagawa Prefecture convenience store in 2007, the Yokohama District Court said Monday.

Miura hanged himself at a Los Angeles detention facility after being moved from Saipan, where he had been arrested in connection with the shooting of his wife in 1981 in Los Angeles. She died of her wound the following year in Japan.

Prosecutors had indicted Miura at the Odawara branch of the Yokohama District Court, accusing him of stealing ¥3,600 worth of merchandise in Hiratsuka in April 2007.

Miura pleaded not guilty during his first trial session in July 2007.

The shoplifting case was put on hold after Miura was arrested on Saipan in January over his wife's murder. Following the arrest, the Yokohama court decided not to set any date for another trial session.
