Tokyo Electric Power Co. delayed shutting down a nuclear reactor at its Fukushima No. 1 power station Monday to meet surging power demand as the heat wave continued to hang over the country.

Tepco is postponing maintenance at its 784-megawatt No. 3 reactor until the end of this month from a planned shutdown Monday, spokesman Manabu Takeyama said.
