PARIS (Kyodo) A 31-year-old Japanese woman attending a French university was listed in critical condition Tuesday after she was found seriously injured, Radio France reported.

She was found unconscious by a passerby late Monday in central Nantes, western France, and was taken to a hospital, the report said. Police are investigating whether foul play was involved.

The Japanese Embassy in Paris said it has been asked by her family not to say anything about her.

The woman, whose first name is Kayo, has been studying French at Nantes University. She was found with serious head injuries and it appeared that she had vomited blood, but the report said there was no evidence of robbery attempt or that she was sexually assaulted.
