KUMAMOTO – A man shot his ex-wife and wounded two police officers Tuesday in Kumamoto Prefecture during a quarrel with the woman, police said.
Satoshi Yoshida, 58, seriously wounded the woman and one of the officers. The other officer sustained minor injuries.
The shooting occurred in the town of Jonan at around 9:35 a.m., police said. It was not known how Yoshida got the weapon.
Yoshida, a home renovator, and his 54-year-old ex-wife had argued in a house where the two used to live. The house is now used as a workshop.
Police and firefighters came to the house after the woman called for help. Police alleged Yoshida had stalked and beat the woman.
After seeing the woman flee toward the officers, Yoshida opened fire at the three from inside the house.
He barricaded himself inside and continued firing. He gave himself up and was arrested about 80 minutes later, police said.
