Ginowan Mayor Yoichi Iha on Thursday started a sticker campaign to urge a resolution to the problems associated with having a U.S. military base in the Okinawan city.

The city has created two stickers. One reads, "No More Base!!" accompanied by an illustration of two children covering their ears from the noise made by a helicopter. The other declares, "Don't Destroy Lives!!" and shows helicopters ripping through a heart.

The designs were chosen from applications submitted by the public. The city has prepared 100 stickers for official vehicles and 800 smaller stickers for general distribution.

In August 2004, a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter from Futenma Air Station crashed into the Okinawa International University campus adjacent to the base.
