The customs office in Imari, Saga Prefecture, has confiscated around 70,000 fake brand products, including bags and clothes, from a container off a South Korea-registered freighter, officials said Tuesday.

A large amount of similar bogus brand products were seized in Wakayama Prefecture.

The customs office is now investigating a possible connection between the two finds, trying to identify who was behind the smuggling and the route, the officials said.

According to the officials, the ship arrived at Imari port last November after calling at Xiamen, China, and Busan, South Korea.

A man who was registered as the recipient of the cargo claimed he had allowed a third party to use his name in return for payment, the customs officials said.
