UTSUNOMIYA – A 57-year-old woman drowned Monday after falling into an artificial pond at a golf club in the city of Tochigi, police said.
The police identified the woman as Kazue Sugita, a boutique owner from Satte, Saitama Prefecture.
According to police, she slipped and fell into the pond at the Eventail Golf Club at around 1:50 p.m. as she tried to hold out a golf club to another female player who had fallen into the pond while trying to retrieve her ball.
Sugita was pulled from the water about one hour later.
