BEIJING — Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday blamed Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s visits to the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine for the deterioration of bilateral ties, adding that China will hold a summit with Japan when the visits stop, Japanese politicians who met with Hu said.
Former Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto quoted Hu as saying in a meeting here that the cause of the soured ties “does not lie with Chinese or Japanese people, but with the fact that a small number of Japanese leaders are visiting Yasukuni Shrine.”
