The terminal at the new Kitakyushu airport, which is scheduled to open on March 16, has been completed, officials of the construction company that built the facility said Monday.

The terminal has a price tag of about 4 billion yen. The three-story building, which has a total floor area of about 14,700 sq. meters, is located in the western part of the new airport.

At a ceremony marking the opening of the facility, Mitsuyoshi Okada, chairman of Kitakyushu Air Terminal Co., the company that manages the terminal, said the building was designed to address environmental concerns and access for the disabled.

Among other amenities, the new airport terminal has an observation deck where visitors can watch planes take off and land.

The airport's control tower and runway, which were built on a man-made island, have already been completed.
