The man, identified as Ryota Suzuki, 20, was hired by the inn, Tsurunoyu Onsen, to remove snow from the pipes used to bring water to the baths. He was pulled from the snow in the late afternoon but was later pronounced dead. The inn is located in the Nyuto Onsen hot spring resort area. Another 32-year-old worker who was trapped in the slide, Seiji Takahashi, was rescued. His injuries were not life-threatening, the workers said.
