BEIJING (Kyodo) Japan and North Korea began bilateral talks Saturday under a new three-track format to try to solve complex problems preventing them from normalizing diplomatic relations.

The Beijing talks, expected to last about five days, will see three panels addressing separate issues: diplomatic normalization, North Korea’s abductions of Japanese and Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile development.
