The Diet passed a 4.52 trillion yen supplementary budget Friday for the current fiscal year through March and is preparing to take action on the budget for fiscal 2006, which is scheduled to begin in April.
The fiscal 2005 extra budget will finance measures to deal with asbestos-induced health woes, building safety defects and bird flu, among others.
The government and ruling coalition -- the Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito -- now aim to push the 79.69 trillion yen budget for fiscal 2006 through the Lower House in February and the Upper House by the end of March.
