NAGASAKI (Kyodo) A police officer was arrested Thursday on suspicion of pointing a gun at a man to force him to confess during questioning over a minor infraction in the city of Nagasaki.

Inspector Norihiko Irie, 53, is suspected of summoning the 34-year-old man to the police box where he worked on Jan. 17 and pointing a gun at his face to force him to confess to removing the post's door, according to investigators.

Irie also allegedly intimidated a 56-year-old man at the police post by placing a gun on the desk in front of him and telling him it was real.

Irie, who was assigned to his current post last March, has denied the allegations, claiming he never unholstered his pistol, police said.
