OSAKA (Kyodo) A former senior official of Osaka-based Asahi Broadcasting Corp. was arrested Thursday on suspicion of preparing contracts for fictitious events featuring pop stars from the major talent agency Johnny & Associates, police said.

Ken Momotani, 74, was quoted as owning up to the misdeed. Police also suspect Momotani, who has headed an Osaka-based event-planning firm since leaving the broadcasting company, took an unspecified amount of money that another Osaka event-planning firm had borrowed in connection with the bogus contracts.

In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more crucial than ever.
