NAGANO (Kyodo) An 11-year-old boy from Suwa, Nagano Prefecture, missing since Dec. 3 was found dead Sunday in Lake Suwa, police said.

They said they don't think Ryuo Horiuchi, who was in the fifth grade, was the victim of foul play.

No external injuries were found on his body, they said, and he apparently fell into the lake by accident.

A man found the body floating near a floodgate in the afternoon and notified police.

His family identified the body, according to the police.

They said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The boy had been taking a walk near the floodgate with his mother and younger sister at around 3 p.m. Dec. 3, and the mother scolded him after he argued with his sister.

He told his mother he would return home alone and disappeared while she used a nearby restroom.

After the family reported the boy missing, police divers launched an unsuccessful search where the body was eventually found.
