A 30-year-old nurse apparently leaped to her death Friday morning from an eight-story building in the city of Yamaguchi, and police said they found her husband fatally stabbed at their home in the city.

According to police, rescue officials received a call from a resident that a woman had jumped from a stairwell of the building to the parking lot below.

Police who arrived at the scene found the woman, later identified as Eriko Motoyama, already dead. There were bloodstains on the stairway from which she is suspected to have jumped.

A search of her home in another part of the city found her husband, Masaji, 30, dead in the bathroom with multiple stab wounds to his chest.

Police suspect Motoyama killed herself after stabbing her husband, but were proceeding cautiously with the case and planned to conduct an autopsy on the man to determine the cause of his death.

The couple's two sons, aged 3 and 2, were found unharmed at their home, police added.
