A 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a police officer at a police box in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture.

Police said the suspect, a student from Ishinomaki in his third year in junior high school, had apparently tried to take the officer's gun. His name is being withheld because he is a minor.

The boy was overpowered by the officer, Nobuyoshi Tsunoda, 57, and placed under arrest on suspicion of attempted murder and obstruction of official duties.

Police officials said the boy showed up at the police box at around 4 p.m. and told the officer, who was alone at the time, that he wanted to know about police work as part of his "school work."
