A 40-year-old Japanese man died after being shot by intruders in the southeastern Philippines, police said Thursday.

Tomoyuki Nishikawa and his Filipino father-in-law were shot Tuesday while resisting three men who barged into their house in Camarines Sur Province, about 150 km southeast of Manila, police said.

Nishikawa, who was shot in the hip, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while his father-in-law survived his wounds, they said.

Police said the intruders fled the house after the shooting without taking any valuables. Investigators are looking for a "small-time holdup gang" that raided several houses in the past, police officer Edmundo Mendoza said.
