Japan has begun inviting Iraqis in the cities of Samawah and Baghdad to apply for government scholarships to study at Japanese graduate schools. Two scholarships are available.

Hiroyasu Kobayashi, head of the Foreign Ministry’s office in Samawah, said the scholarships are open to Iraqi university and college graduates under age 35.

The two successful applicants will begin their studies in Japan next spring, Kobayashi said.

Several people have already submitted applications since local TV stations in Samawah started broadcasting information about the scholarship.

In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more crucial than ever.
