OSAKA – A 36-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in the city of Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, on suspicion of murdering his parents, local police said.
The arrest came after Kenichi Ito turned himself into a local police box, saying he had killed his parents at their home nearby. Police found the couple dead in a first-floor room.
Ito was quoted as telling police that he had been a “hikikomori” shut-in since the age of 16 and that he murdered his parents out of frustration over his own timidity and anxiety for his family’s future.
According to police, Ito allegedly strangled his father Mitsuyuki, 66, and mother Yoshiko, 61, with a necktie sometime late Monday afternoon.
