A man and a woman were found dead in a car here in an apparent Web suicide pact, police said early Saturday.

The police identified the pair only as a 34-year-old man from Shiki, Saitama Prefecture, and a 36-year-old city office employee from Yamato, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The pair apparently committed suicide Friday evening after entering into a suicide pact over the Internet, the police said.

They said they suspect the pair died of carbon monoxide poisoning after lighting a portable charcoal stove in the car.

Officers later found what appeared to be a suicide note in the man's house that said he came to a deadlock over his work and met the woman through a Web site aimed at bringing together people interested in committing suicide together.
