About 20 pigs briefly tasted freedom Wednesday when the truck in which they were traveling overturned at the Tosu Junction of the Nagasakido expressway in Tosu, Saga Prefecture, local police said.

The highway police unit of the Saga Prefectural Police said the accident occurred around 9:40 a.m. Keigo Shibuya, of the village of Nishihara, Kumamoto Prefecture, was driving the truck.

The overturned vehicle was hit by another large truck, freeing about 20 of the roughly 90 pigs, police said.

Apparently overcome by the heat, many of the freed pigs laid on the expressway, making it easy for them to be rounded up by workers, they said.

The driver of the second truck suffered a minor injury to his left shoulder, but no one was seriously injured, they said. A section of the expressway was temporarily closed following the crash.

Shibuya was transporting the pigs to the town of Kawatana, Nagasaki Prefecture, from Kumamoto Prefecture.
