SAN FRANCISCO (Kyodo) Nissan Motor Co. President Carlos Ghosn believes the automaker will achieve sales of 1 million vehicles in the U.S. market for the first time during the current fiscal year.

"For the first two months (of fiscal 2004), we have had an average of 30 percent sales increases (from the previous year) in the U.S.," he said recently. "I expect to achieve the 1 million" target.

Ghosn has been spearheading the sales campaign in the United States, one of the key markets in Nissan's global strategy, since April.
