Experts from Britain and Japan will meet this week in a pioneering initiative designed to help combat the problem of homelessness in both countries.

The group of British specialists, who come from a variety of organizations, hope to pass on their knowledge to their Japanese counterparts, as well as learn from the way experts in Tokyo and Osaka are addressing the issue.

The program includes a series of seminars and meetings, as well as visits to homeless groups in Osaka and Tokyo.

Phillida Purvis, director of nonprofit group Links Japan, has organized the project and told Kyodo News that both countries could learn from each other, even though the support network for homeless people in Britain is more established.
