A U.S. Army sergeant stationed in Okinawa Prefecture was arrested Saturday in Okinawa city on suspicion of breaking into an apartment, police said.

James Smith, a 27-year-old army sergeant stationed at the U.S. Torii Communication Station, was arrested for allegedly breaking into the apartment of a 43-year-old man in the city.

Smith was arrested near the apartment by police officers who went to the scene after receiving a report from the man about a break-in. Smith was drunk at the time of arrest, the police said.
