Buena Vista Pictures, a distribution arm of Walt Disney Co., said Monday that Hayao Miyazaki's Oscar-winning animated film "Spirited Away" will be released at 800 U.S. and Canadian movie theaters on Friday.
The film initially played at 26 North American theaters in September and was eventually shown at 151. It is currently playing at only seven North American theaters.
The expanded release of the film, titled "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" in Japan, comes after it won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film at the 75th Annual Academy Awards Ceremony on Sunday.
