The China Southern Airlines group will start regular flights between Hiroshima and Harbin in April, the Hiroshima Prefectural Government said Tuesday.

China Northern Airlines, a member of the group, will operate a 153-seat jet on the flight, which links Hiroshima and Harbin via Dalian in about 3 1/2 hours, every Tuesday and Saturday, it said.

It will be China Northern Airlines' second regular flight linking Japan and the northeast city of Harbin. It currently flies between Niigata and Harbin four times a week.

Air China operates flights between Hiroshima and Beijing via Dalian twice a week with nearly 80 percent capacity, a prefectural official said.

"We can expect the new route to draw considerable demand from tourists and businesspeople," the official said.
