YOKOHAMA – A gasoline storage tank burst into flames Saturday morning at Yokohama port, but no injuries were reported.
Police said the fire bureau mobilized about 45 fire engines, along with fireboats and helicopters, to fight the blaze in Tsurumi Ward.
The tank is owned by Tokyo-based Daitoh Trading Co.
The explosion occurred around 11:10 a.m., several minutes after workers started filling the tank with unleaded gasoline from an oil tanker.
The fire started to die down shortly after 1 p.m and was extinguished around 5 p.m.
The tank can hold 2,000 kiloliters and is believed to have been almost one-quarter full at the time of the explosion.
Many other tanks are located nearby, but were kept from the blaze.
