Philippine police said Sunday a body found earlier this month in a Manila river was that of a 39-year-old Japanese man.

The man, Hideo Hoshino, was a native of Saitama Prefecture who was living in Makati in the Manila metropolitan region, the police said.

Hoshino's body, which showed no signs of external injuries, was found floating in the Pasig River around 3 p.m. Nov. 6.

He was wearing a T-shirt and jeans, but did not have anything to make immediate identification possible, the police said.

Hoshino was reported missing by a relative in Manila after he left his home with his belongings, including his passport, early on the morning Nov. 5, they said.

Hoshino was reported to have come to Manila about two years ago.
