NEW YORK – Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday it will expand the production capacity at its assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, to 250,000 vehicles a year from 220,000 to meet strong sales.
The workforce will be expanded by 700 employees, or about 22 percent of the total.
Toyota reports strong sales in Canada of the Corolla, the firm’s best-selling sedan, and its new model, the Matrix.
Toyota has just expanded production capacity of its Ontario plant to 220,000 cars from 200,000 to accommodate the production of the luxury sports utility vehicle Lexus RX300, which is scheduled to go into production there next September.
