A Japanese fisherman was found drowned Friday after his fishing boat collided with a South Korean freighter and capsized off Onoda, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the Japan Coast Guard said.

Mitsugu Okazaki, 62, of Ube in the prefecture, was found dead about six hours after he and his wife, Teruko, 60, were thrown overboard when their 5-ton trawler, the Seifuku Maru, collided with the 8,273-ton Heung-A Bangkok in the Suo Sea off Cape Motoyama at around 2:10 a.m., the coast guard said.

The woman was rescued by the South Korean ship, coast guard officials said.

The fishing boat was returning to Ube and the ship was heading for Ulsan in South Korea from Kochi when they collided, the officials said.
