A man from Yamagata Prefecture will attempt to swim the 43-km Soya Strait, between Hokkaido and Russia's Sakhalin Island, on Monday in his latest marathon swimming feat.

Ken Ikarashi, 49, of Tsuruoka, plans to swim from Cape Soya in Wakkanai on the northern tip of Hokkaido to a point offshore close to Mys Kril'on on Sakhalin Island.

He has already conquered the 34-km Strait of Dover between Britain and France, the Mamiya Strait between Sakhalin and continental Russia and the 27-km Tsugaru Strait between Hokkaido and Honshu.
