A Japanese cargo ship became submerged Sunday morning in waters off Fukuoka after colliding with a Chinese-registered container ship, the Japan Coast Guard said.

No one was hurt in the 8:00 a.m. collision between the 199-ton Taiyo Maru No. 8 and the 4,967-ton Xianglian in Hakata Bay off Fukuoka, coast guard officials said.

There is no chance the Japanese ship will sink, they said.

The Xianglian crashed into the middle of the Taiyo Maru No. 8, causing it to become swamped, the coast guard said.

There was poor visibility due to fog at the time of the accident.
