E Group, an Italian retailer of high-quality foods, plans to open a coffee shop here in the summer, E Group President Giancarlo Aneri announced Wednesday.

Aneri said the company plans to open a network of coffee shops across Japan in the future, but chose Sendai for its first outlet because it is where the Italian team will be training for the World Cup soccer finals that begin May 31.

E Group sells coffee beans to famous hotels and operates 20 coffee shops in 12 countries. Its beans are roasted according to Italian tradition and sold under the E Tricaffe brand.

The shop in Sendai, to be called E Tricaffe, has already signed a contract to supply a Tokyo hotel with coffee beans.
