KYOTO – A man wielding a handmade spear stormed into a post office in Kyoto on Monday afternoon demanding money but was quickly subdued by post office workers, police said.
The police arrested Masamitsu Nishiyama, 58, on attempted robbery and other charges at the post office in Kyoto’s Shimogyo Ward.
Nishiyama entered the facility shortly after noon and threatened a female employee with a 1-meter-long bamboo stick topped with a kitchen knife.
Postmaster Hirofumi Yamamoto and others subdued Nishiyama and held him down.
Yamamoto suffered a slight injury to his neck during the scuffle, they said.
