NAGOYA – Aichi Prefectural Police on Wednesday arrested a Tokyo-based entrepreneur who is believed to have illegally sold eight rare macaws — birds protected by international treaty — for a total of 300,000 yen.
The suspect, a 47-year-old Tokyo man whose name was not provided, allegedly sold the eight macaws, which are protected by the Washington Convention on endangered species, on two occasions, first in August 1999 and then last October.
