Authorities impounded six cows emblazoned with spray-painted protest slogans Monday after the animals were found wandering around Kumamoto Castle park here.

Investigators believe the cows were sprayed with slogans such as “Koizumi Help” and “It’s safe” as an act of protest over the central government’s handling of the recent outbreak of mad cow disease.
