A paper bag containing some 3 million yen in cash was found in the mailbox of a 54-year-old company employee in Yokohama's Izumi Ward on Saturday morning, police said.

The company employee said he has no idea where the money might have come from, and notified local police. Police said they were treating it as a lost-and-found case. and looking for the owner of the money.

According to investigators, the bag contained three bundles of about 100 10,000 yen bills wrapped with paper strips used at post offices. None of the bills were in mint condition.

The company employee was quoted as telling police that he found the bag as he opened his mailbox to pick up the morning paper at around 8 a.m.
